Condobolin is in the Lachlan Shire
The Heart of NSW encompasses the local government area of the Lachlan Shire and is well known for its natural beauty, friendly and welcoming locals and relaxed bush lifestyle.
The towns and villages in the Lachlan Shire capture the essence of life in the bush. Condobolin is the largest town in Lachlan followed by Lake Cargelligo and Tottenham and the villages of Tullibigeal, Burcher, Derriwong, Albert and Fifield.
At the time of European colonisation, there were an estimated 3,000 Wiradjuri people living in the region. In the Lachlan Shire today, one in six people identify as Aboriginal.
Lachlan is a rich agricultural area and in addition to grain, is a significant producer of sheep, wool, beef and cotton. The agricultural sector accounts for nearly a third of economic activity.
All towns and villages in the Lachlan Shire have unique features and attractions to explore and enjoy so reach for your hat, pull on your boots and be prepared to trek through our red dirt to see some of the most beautiful country in Australia.

Incentives for health professionals
The Lachlan Shire is well-served by healthcare and educational providers.
Condobolin is classified as MM5 and Lake Cargelligo as MM6 under the Department of Health’s new “Modified Monash Model” classification system that categorises areas according to both geographical remoteness and town size.
The system was developed to recognise the challenges in attracting health workers to more remote and smaller communities. Medical professionals relocating from major city areas to Lachlan may be entitled to relocation and retention benefits from the General Practice Rural Incentives Program.
